Constitution

FEDERG was founded in May 2012 during the 49th ERA-EDTA congress in Paris. It was constituted on 22 May 2014 as an international non-profit association under Belgian law and is registered as an NGO on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.

Membership

There are two types of membership:

  • Full members: federations, or national organisations focused on a condition.
  • Associate members: informal patient or parent groups focused on genetic diseases.

Organisations interested in joining can contact the Secretary. An annual membership fee applies.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM reviews achievements, approves the yearly report and accounts, agrees the next year’s budget, and appoints or discharges members and Board members.

Board

The Board is elected by the members and appoints the officers. It meets six times a year, and all members are welcome to attend.

Scientific Council

The Scientific Council advises on research support, encourages communication between research groups and health professionals, helps organise conferences and liaises on scientific, health policy and ethical questions, always avoiding conflicts of interest.

Finance & transparency

FEDERG is funded by membership subscriptions and by unrestricted donations and grants. The Board has adopted two ethical policies. Financial statements are published every year on the official website.
